Reed Flute Cave

Reed Flute Cave is 240 meters long and endows grand fairyland ofkarst caves with landscape and rural landscape. Many strange rocks and stone pillars are along the u-shaped route. It is a paradise of stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains, birds, plants and animals in fantastic shapes and colors sparkling evoking the great admiration among the tourists. The cave is highly praised as the ' Huge Art Palace of the Nature'. More than 70 inscriptions in ink are in the cave, which can trace back to 792 AD in Tang Dynasty. This shows that the cave has been a scenic spot since the ancient times.
Location
Reed Flute Cave is situated in the northwest of Guilin, 5 kilometers away from the center of the city. It is a cave on the southern shoulder of the Guangming Hill (Bright Hill) and is one of the most outstanding resorts in Guilin.
Why got its this name
According to a legend, Reed Flute Cave got its name because people believed that the reed by the cave's mouth could be made into flutes.
The cave got its name from a kind of flutes growing outside which can be made into melodious flutes.
Function or value in the past
The Crystal Palace of the Dragon King in the cave was used as an air-raid shelter during the war.
Construction
The stalagmite and stone flowers of grotesque shapes in the caves consists of impressive spectacles. Many stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains, and stone flowers are in the U-shaped Karst cave sparkling.? More than 30 interesting views, such as “Pine in the Snow", "Mushroom Hill", "Virgin Forest" are between the entrance and the exit.
History
Since Tang Dynasty, this cave has attracted millions of tourists and many people have left murals of which seventy-seven are being well preserved.
One grotto named the Crystal Palace of the Dragon King, can hold about 1000 people and used as an air-raid shelter during the war.

Legend and Story
It is said that once a scholar coming to visit the cave tried to compose a poem to express his admiration for its beauty, but he spent too much time to choose the proper word and at last he turned to be a stone.
Present condition
Since the cave opened to the public in 1962, millions of tourists have visited it. The cave is one of the major scenic resorts in that place just second to Li River. At present, the cave is equipped with artificial lighting system to highlight visual effect.

Tourists can take Bus No. 3 from the Railway Station to the cave.
Admission fee.
Tickets into the cave cost RMB45.
